Master Control—Len Gold, Prof. Ken Johnson, Ann Grodzicki, and Louis Mooney go over the operating log. The audio “console” consisted of two VU meters, each with a 2 dB per step attenuator, which can be seen here just above Mr. Gold’s left arm. KPCS was still broadcasting monophonic programming, but the two meters were installed with the expectation that the station would someday be transmitting stereophonic broadcasts. A few years after this photograph was made, a new Collins 831D-1 two-kilowatt stereo transmitter and a Gates Stereo Statesman console were purchased. When that happened, the G.E. transmitter became a backup unit.
